It’s funny, how language can mean so many different things to people in time. Bodies conglomerate together through mutual backgrounds, personalities, interests and sports of sorts, and, together, they create their own form of language. When a new generous body enters the circle, they must learn to adapt in a new environment, for language games are at work here, and one must immerse oneself deep in the language in order to understand the substance of what is being said.

London Park Police Constabulary 1995-2007: Commemorating 12 years

24/3/2012

In this exclusive sneak-peak of what goes on behind the walls of the Police Station, we find out what 1st Sergeant 8 team get up to!

INTERVIEW 1

Name: Sarah Jennifer Smith
Position: Police Chief
Marital Status: Divorced, single mother of two children, Louise (16) and Ben (6).
Age: 37
Joined: 1995

Well, Sarah, 12 years at the Police Station has made you one of the longest running members of the force.

12 years? Goodness me, it does not seem that long at all. Well, the others sometimes refer to me as the granny of the police force, so I guess it gives me that novelty value.

What have you learned during that time?

First and foremost, without wishing to be modest, I have learned to be extremely good at my job! During my time, I have had a baby, got divorced from my husband, and been promoted to chief officer, so I guess you have to make some sacrifices for your career.

What is it like at the Police Station now?

Very different from how it used to be, and to be honest, it is not quite as good anymore without Hayda and the others. For one thing, there are so many of us now.

At first, there was just me, my husband, my brother in law and his wife, and of course Geoffrey – just the five of us, and now there are nearly a hundred. It does not feel like the little team that we used to have, because I am always working with someone different each time.

I sometimes long for the good old days, when there was me, my husband, Hayda and Hayrak working together as a four. We shared a room for about six years, before Hayda left and I got divorced. We made a good team back then.

But you are still in teams, right?

Well, yeah. There are ten to each squadron plus co-ordinator. Gemma joined in 1997, Hayda and Hayrak joined in 1998, Harriet in 1999, Joseph and Lindsay in 2000, Jason and Jane in 2001. Then Hayda left in 2004, Harriet in 2005 and Jane in 2006, and now there are all these new younger girls replacing them. So the only ones left from the original lineup are Liam, Max, Louise, Hayrak, my sister and myself plus everyone has moved out into houses, so the place has kinda lost its magic.

I want to explore your marriage with Liam, if I may.

No, that is fine, ask away.

You are still sharing a room with him, right? Does that make things a little awkward?

Yes, yes and for Christ sake, yes. Or it should do, but it does not, because we are both fine about things. Hayrak moved out when they got their new apartment in Sisorca, so I took their bed. Liam and his girlfriend still have the bed opposite. So yeah.

But I am actually moving back into Railway House with the kids this summer! I am very excited. We are appearing on TV, on House Garden DIY Makeover Challenge, with Carole Richardson, and renovating the house so it is fit to live in. Obviously, it will be strange moving back into a haunted house where I grew up as a young girl, but it seemed the right thing to do. It is like completing a circle.

Now your marriage was, shall we say turbulent through the years. When did you get married?

1989, a year before we had Louise. We had been married 16 years when we got divorced in 2005, which is pretty good going, considering.

And when did things start to get rocky?

It all started in 1998 with his affair with Clara. And then things just went downhill from there, there was (counting on her fingers) Harriet, Nicola, Edna, Laura, Emma, Clara again…that is seven affairs with six different girls. At first, I was tolerant, then after the second one with Clara I filed for divorce but we renewed our wedding vows then and remarried. And finally, there was Ada, and that seemed to finish things. At least he finally seems happy with Ada, though who knows what Kym has in store for him.

Does that make you angry?

It used to, yes. When we were married, it broke my heart, it made me angry and upset and jealous and guilty. But then I realised that it is just the way he is, and his heart never settles. It is much easier now that we are separated, a lot easier to deal with, and I think we made the right choice.

We are friends, and on speaking terms, yeah, but not that close, although I get on a lot better with him now that we are not married anymore. But it does create a rift and there is a sort of rift in the force, between me, Hayrak, Gemma, against him and some of the new girls. But I just laugh at the situation – it is nothing to get upset about, I know what he is like and I keep my distance.

Are you bitter?

Well…yeah, I suppose so, but who wouldn’t be? Him and his women, it is so stupid, he will never grow up, but I still love him damn it! It has been hard without Hayda, but Hayrak has been there for me – a good friend, and my sister is around the corner. Most of all, I am just so proud of my daughter, Louise (smiling). She has been through it with me, by my side, and has dealt with things so calmly and maturely, looking after her little brother, and stopping me getting emotional, you know. I don’t know what I could have done without her.

How old is your daughter?

Sixteen now, and doing her AS-Levels at Ignisborough Community College. She is taking Art, English, Textiles, Media Studies and ICT. She always cooks for Ben when I am not around and is a proper grown-up young lady. We like to go shopping together now and then in London.

And what about Ben?

Ben is approaching seven now, and is doing well at Oaks Close. He loves his football just like his father. Liam looks after them during the weekends, so it is the weekends that is the hardest time. But I usually pop round to see Hayda for tea and sympathy, she is not far away, so I have company, which is nice.

Hayda, bless her, she is so weird but possibly everything I could ever want in a friend so much so that I consider her my best friend.

I do get worried about Ada because she is not their mother, I am, and I hate it when she talks to them. But Louise is old enough to realise that, and to be honest, several weekends, Liam and Ada are off doing other things, so I get to see them anyway. Liam has his own life now, with Ada.

When did you get promoted?

It wasn’t so much a promotion, but Liam has been very busy lately, too busy it seems to run the squadron, so he handed responsibility over to me. Gemz is the co-ordinator, so between me and my sister, we run the place, baby!

Do you get on with any of the other girls?

I have known Louise for nearly 20 years and we get on fine. Lindsay is okay, but she has issues, and her bitchy moments. We quarrel because she is a useless secretary, just plain idle, sitting there playing solitaire all day, painting her nails and gossiping on the phone! Possibly the laziest person I have ever met, so not really. I don’t really care for any of the others, they are just colleagues and nothing more.

It’s really just me, Gemz, Hayrak, Geoffrey, Max and Louise that are the old school, and we work a team. Of course I am happy. I am as happy as I can be, I have learned a lot about life, simply by working in this police station, and I have learned to cope with things that are shoved right up your nose, you know, like mixing work relations with romances and family, it’s all there. Some days I feel sick and want to run away, but I can’t. This is my life, and I have some lifelong friends, and I am sure I will stay for many years to come.

Thanks Sarah, that was most interesting.

My pleasure. See you soon.

INTERVIEW 2

Name: Hayrak Donda
Position: Officer 2
Marital Status: Married to Hayda Loral, father of Daniel (7) and Nadine (2.).
Age: 33
Joined: 1998

Hey Hayrak, tell us about how you started at the Police Station.

Guten Tag! I had been trained at military school near Mannheim, where I grew up, and from there, I went into the army, the air force, and then into the police force. One thing sort of led to another...I had always been fascinated by working in London, in the UK and this was reinforced when I was sent to Southampton on an assignment in 1998. I checked out what jobs were available, and that is how I discovered the police station.

Where you met Hayda…?

Ah yes. Well, it was actually a complete coincidence, when I joined the force the summer before she joined. Not only that, but we had met three times before, on three separate romantic occasions, so when that happens, you know it is meant to be.

Tell us about your previous encounters.

The first one, I don’t remember very well. I was probably just about to enter adolescence, when my school did this inter-exchange with her school in France. That is when we first met. The second time was in 1993, I met her in Montmartre, Paris, in the red light district, when she had shaved hair and fishnet tights, dear lord! But she was beautiful. The third time was a few months before she joined the police in 1998, at a camp-site on the north coast of France. Quite a random coincidence, but there you go.

What did Liam and Sarah make of this?

Well, they were surprised, as you can imagine, but pleased that I wouldn’t have to give up my bed! (laughing) They were good companions when we shared a room.

How is the job?

Yeah, everything is fine. Sarah made me her second-in-command, which is nice, because it means I get a bit of control over my colleagues! Liam is also my other half in the job – he has exactly the same role as I do, which means I am not trying to command on my own. I also get to play with bigger guns (laughing).

Do you get enough time to see the kids?

Not as much as I would like, to be honest, as I am always out doing some assignment or whatever, so it is usually Saturday by the time I can clear my desk and pop home. It is a 5-10 minute walk home from the police station, and when I do arrive home, the kids are always excited to see me, which is nice. Sunday is designated family day, we go to church, go to the market, play in the park, go shopping at the Rovie Mall, whatever. So seeing the kids is more of an occasion, rather than a day to day occurrence. Obviously, when I get older I will be able to take more time off, but now, I am in the thick of my job.

Do you get any other leisure time?

Occasionally, I get to play football on Saturday with the guys, and have a pint afterwards in the Rovie Mall. That is only if it is quiet, otherwise, I am usually free on Monday evenings which is when I go and play drums for SAJE at Sisorca Arts Centre with my wife and Liam, and a couple of other friends.

Who would you consider to be your best friends?

I used to hang out with Liam a lot more than I do now, we are not as close any more since he split up with his wife, so I tend to only see him when working or at SAJE. Otherwise, I don’t know what he gets up to these days. More recently, I have been spending quite a lot of time with Joe, and I think now, I think would consider him my best friend, simply because he is always around and always there for me. Max is also a legend, but he is very much a family man, and not around as much these days.

Cheers, Hayrak, for being rock solid as always.

No worries. All the best man.

INTERVIEW 3

Name: Liam Taylor
Position: Officer 2
Marital Status: Engaged to Ada Laurel, estranged father of Louise (16) and Ben (6).
Age: 38
Joined: 1995

Hey Liam, what are you up to these days?

Hello, yeah, I am very busy at the moment, trying to balance work life with leisure. Playing a lot of football, going to the pub with my mates and watching the game, going clubbing, partying, and socialising with people from the police academy, generally having fun, which is more than I can say for some people.

Who do you spend most of your time with?

Matty and Joey from Ignisborough. I met them through Jason, who used to work at the fire brigade with them, safe guys. I usually go to the brewery over their side and meet up with them for a bit of footy and banter, they know a few girls there as well, which is good. You know, innit. I also met Lucy and Kym there through Ada, and Jason comes along for the ride when he feels up to it. There is also Gay Kev, Dave, Dannyboy, Al Johnson, Berks and Susanna, although nobody likes her, because she is a batty, like.

Sounds like you have a little crew going on there.

Oh yeah mate, we just like to have a laugh, you know.

How did you get Kym and Lucy in on the game?

Well, basically, Harriet left and then Jane followed, after some disagreements with salary cuts. Ada has a lot of charisma and got networking and she recruited some of the best girls for the job. I knew Kym a bit when I was with her sister Edna, and Lucy we knew through a friend of a friend – she used to work at the hospital with Edna but was not suited to the job, so we got her over here instead, innit!

Sarah did not seem to have a problem with that, as far as I know, she was only interested in getting the right people for the job. They had to get through her obviously to get in, as she was interviewing, but they made it through, and things are much better at the police station now.

What went wrong with your marriage before?

I dunno, she was just getting jealous and messing me about. Didn’t have time for her. Wasn’t going to be doing with that…I was probably too good for her, bless her heart, that she simply couldn’t bear it. People just grow apart, innit.

How are things with Sarah now?

It’s cool you know, she has the kids during the week and I get them during weekends, except when there is a game on, she can have them then as well. It’s nice to know that when I get too busy, they have a mother who is always there to look after them. She doesn’t seem to make too much of a fuss about that, bless her heart, so that whenever I am tired of them, then I can always leave them with Sarah and go off and do whatever.

Ada obviously feels differently, because she is not their natural parent. I get her to talk to them but they don’t seem to make much of a noise and just get on with whatever they were doing at that time. I guess she feels a little awkward about the situation and wants to stay out of it. Which is why I don’t see the kids as much, because I am looking after her.

How does your disastrous marriage with Sarah make you feel about your prospects with Ada?

Not a chip off my shoulder, mate. I have no hesitation in tying the knot right now, plus I’m bored of being single. It would be really cool to start up a whole new family and let it happen all over again, so yeah, I’m looking forward to the wedding. Joey and Matty will be my two best men and all the boys will be there, should be a good laugh, like, you know.

Where are you getting married?

We are planning on having a civil ceremony at Houston Court Hotel, Thorndale, in July. There will be a champagne reception, a bar tab, a chocolate fountain, and Richie is offering to DJ for us. We is going to get smashed! Can’t wait.

Will any of the polices be there?

Obviously, Hayrak and Hayda can come if they want, I’m not bothered. But not Sarah! Max and Louise will be there, because, like, I have got to have my little bro there to watch the festivities…Anyone else is welcome, just bring all your friends along for the fun and games.

What are your prospects for the police force now?

Well, ever since we acclaimed official constabulary status back in 2000, we have been gradually expanding. This year, we acquired two more vehicles and ties with six new police stations in London. Basically I don’t have time to look after everyone, so I nobly stepped down and exchanged jobs with Sarah. It is much better now, because it means I’m not stuck in head office all day and I’m out on the streets, actually working with the younger girls now, like I used to…But it still means I get to be in control, being the deputy, so it is the best of both worlds.

For my police station, I aim to increase the workforce by about 17%, that is a percent statistic more than last year. The more people we get in, the more money we get, and the more cars I get to drive! So yeah, like, the more the merrier, I say.

Within the Police Station, who do you get on with most?

Probably Jason and Linz. Linz is such a dense goose, such a laugh. Like when she had a spinning chair race with Gemma in the office. We often play network games on our consoles with each other over the internet whenever we get a spare moment on the job. She always beats me, because she spends all day on those things when the rest of the world have got to work, eh! Jason, well he’s just safe man. An excellent football/basketball player. Hayrak, well, he is also fairly cheerful most of the time.

Oh, and I also get on well with Kym and Lucy. They’re pretty, and I tease them. They secretly love it.

Is there anyone who you don’t get on with in the Police Station?

Probably Geoffrey because he is a tight arse. But don’t tell him that.

Thanks for your time, Liam, it has been most insightful.

Safe man. Laters.

INTERVIEW 4

Name: Hayda Loral
Position: Resigned, replaced by Ada Laurel
Marital Status: Married to Hayrak Donda, mother of Ben (7) and Nadine (2).
Age: 33
Joined: 1998

Hello Hayda.

Hello my darling, bonjour, and welcome to my ruby loveseat.

Er…thank you Hayda, now, tell us about what you have been doing since you left the police force 3 years ago.

Well, I was actually due to have a baby that summer which is the reason why I left, in part. I devoted the summer to finishing off my autobiography which was duly completed and released in November that year, timely, on my birthday.

Then I got in touch with one of my contacts, Chantal Rouge, and started importing jewellery from the continent. My father also helped, and together, we bought the premises on 3 Orent Road, Sisorca, where I sell an all manner of jewellery, watches, health and beauty products…It has a luxurious red carpet fitted inside, that increases sales by 10%.

I have also been gradually building up a repertoire shall we say, of recipes for use in the kitchen, the garden or even on the beach – make like barbecue or boudoir lunch, for my book, Lunch With Hayda, which I released last summer. This summer I hope to release a follow up Wining and Dining. The front cover has a picture of me in my fanciful red dress, sitting in Hayrak's convertible discovery, one hand on the wheel and the other hand clutching two bottles of wine.

Not that I am condoning drink driving, of course not!

I have been having fun in SAJE – the new jazz band, Sisorca Arts Jazz Ensemble, playing clarinet, resurrecting my lost pride and joy, swimming with the Dolphins, Sisorca Dolphins and cane dancing with Dansonique in the dance troupe.

I was also delighted to be awarded the Miss Sisorca Award in the New Year, snatching the prize away from The Dolum, who won it two years in a row.

Wow, you do sound busy. Do you get enough time to look after the kids?

Well, yes. During shop hours, Daniel is at school and Nadine goes to a creche for some days and stays upstairs above the shop during other days, for she is very young, almost three. Monday nights, I take them over to a friend, usually Sarah or Gemma, where they can play with Ben. All other evenings I am free to look after them. I plan my recipes whilst cooking them evening meals, and even test my recipes on them. Saturdays are usually complicated, because some weeks Hayrak is around, and some weeks he is busy, so I take them swimming, or force them to sit and watch me dance. They never mind, and seem to find it rather amusing, or else they have books and plenty of toys to play with, or things to make and do.

It sounds like you are a good mother to them.

I think it is important. I saw the way Lindsay treats her children and I am horrified.

No disrespect to her – and much as I like Lindsay, but she dumps them in the corner of her office on a bean bag and they watch television all day. At mealtimes, she takes them to the canteen where they eat chips and burgers. Alana gets very irritable and she is not a very sociable young lady at all, she bullies her little sister Misha whenever she is bored. I don’t blame them. They practically grow up inside the police station.

Do the kids not play with each other?

Of course they do. Daniel and Ben get on so well with each other, they seem to be inseparable, like peas in a pod. They are always out doing something together, whether it be fishing, playing sports, exploring the woods. Megan and Alana instead are quite happy to watch television together, they chat, and seem to get along fine. However, Daniel is always too shy to talk to Megan, he tends to hide behind the sofa, which is strange. Ben and Alana, meanwhile, always end up in fights.

Hopefully, when Nadine is old enough, Alana's little sister Misha will have someone to play with. It is a lovely little gathering we have. It is such a shame that Liam is never around anymore, and since half of us are not at the police station either, it is rare that we can get all the kids together, which is sad in a way…that a generation of the police station has disbanded, and all these new, younger people live there.

This summer, the only person from the original lineup left still living there will be Liam. Lindsay and Jason will still be there as well, but it won’t be the same.

Do you know any of the new people working there?

Not really. There is Ada, a couple of pale, vacant-looking girls, Kym and Lucy, as well as a new assistant receptionist, Janice. As if Lindsay is struggling to keep up with her work! No, I don’t have a clue what is going on about the police station, apart from what Sarah tells me of course.

Do you still see Sarah a lot?

Yes, I see Sarah frequently, and Harriet and Louise as well. They are my best friends, so of course I still see them! Sarah often gets me to look after Ben when she is busy, and Ben is such a well-behaved, charming little boy, who is kind to Nadine.

What do you think of Liam?

Goodness gracious, well, rather mixed I have to say. I rarely see him nowadays but he has been awfully insolent to Sarah, and rude to us. But it would be nice if he could just spend some more time with his friends instead of abandoning us. I do still care about him and would like to know what he is getting up to.

When was the last time you spoke?

The last time we properly spoke was last summer, just before he split up with Sarah. Hayrak and I dined with the couple at Pizza Express, where I had a four seasons, with shaved parmesan, fresh relish and a glass of blood-red orange juice. I was wearing a white backless dress and my hair was tied back and it was a lovely summer evening – just the four of us…we talked and laughed, and guzzled fine wines when it got dark as we remembered the good times, under the vine on the veranda. Ee-ar.

Their divorce still makes me sad. If only I could make amends…we made the perfect team.

Do you like to go shopping?

Yes, I love shopping. I rarely shop for clothes, I like to have a few garments I wear all the time. I love Cavendish House, where I select from the choicest lipsticks, puffiest perfumes and immaculate makeup by Chanel, Estée Lauder and Dior. I love jewellery and accessories, sunglasses, handbags and shoes. Some people think that I’m posh, and I probably am, but this is one of my great passions.

Thank you for delighting us with your presence, Hayda.

That’s my pleasure, it has been a lovely afternoon. Au Revoir!

INTERVIEW 5

Name: Kym Sykes
Position: Officer 9
Marital Status: Single
Age: 23
Joined: 2005

So Kym, how have you settled into the job?

Hi. I’m Kym. It has been a challenge actually, Fitting into those new shiny boots. Previously, I thought that working for the police would be a doddle, but this job has proved me wrong!

Who do you know in the Police Station and what are they like?

Liam is amazing, and I, like, totally adore him. He is funny and he makes me laugh lots. He also helps to relax me when I’m stressed, and I know if I have a problem, then I can always go to him, because he is very good with women and their problems. Everyone loves him and he is very popular, because he is great. He has a lot of charisma and personality, and he is very interesting and exciting.

Shouldn’t you go to Sarah if you have a problem?

Well, I don’t see her much, as I am always out on duty and she tends to stay at the police station. Liam told me to always go to him if I have a problem, so I do!

Who else do you like?

Lucy babes, she started soon after I did, and we tend to stick together because we find the job very stressful. She used to work as a cleaner in a hospital, so she knows what it is like to be in a pressurised environment. I ask her lots of questions and she nods and says yes. Ada is flambouyant and delightful, and slightly older than us, so she is like a big sister, you know, she looks after us. The receptionist is also just as clueless as we are, so we can joke around with her pretty easily.

What about Hayrak?

He is our other team leader from Liam, but we don’t know him as much, because he doesn’t really bother talking to us or finding out about what we’re like, he is always away on some mission or another.

Do you know Geoffrey Winton?

Who?

He kind of runs the place.

Evidently not! No one tells us anything around here. I thought it was Sarah in charge. She’s the one that bosses us around and tells us what to do. That’s Gemma's job. We simply collect our duty slips or telecom from Gemma and resume our positions.

Gemma is the officer co-ordinator. How are you finding your way around?

Well, since we’re new, Gemma tends to allocate us all the local positions so we have  been getting used to the layout of Queen's Stanley, and learning the names of all the roads and buildings and stuff. It is a lot to take in. Sisorca is easy, because we both used to live there, and Ignisborough, we hang out quite a lot there but the other neighbourhoods are more taxing, and it has been quite a learning curve.

Also learning the names of letters in the alphabet is hard. I have been using Letterland Technique – something that I learned back in my school days at Oaks Close, but that doesn’t really help, which is tricky.

What has been your most difficult shift so far?

Arresting an old lady for shoplifting. That was quite tough. We had to get reinforcements because I couldn’t remember the little speech that you’re meant to say so I just handcuffed the person and Liam did the honours. That was my first arrest, so I was very nervous, as you can imagine, which is why I forgot the speech in the first place.

Do you know the Blue Mountains Conservatory?

No.

Do you know Hayda Loral?

Who? Is she that posh tart that won Miss Sisorca?

She is the wife of Hayrak. Did you ever meet Harriet?

Who?

She is the girl that you replaced.

Oh yeah, I remember Sarah was saying something about her when I was starting out, and I just assumed that she was another policewoman. Sarah seems to know everyone – where they live, and so on. No, I didn’t meet her.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I dunno really. I like to go for drinks with friends, go to parties, occasionally getting pissed in the park with my girlies, going to the movies, shopping, partying, drinking cocktails. I occasionally go to the gym and sit on exercise bikes when I can be arsed.

Do you read?

Yeah, I read Her Royal Fashion and Cosmopolitan magazines.

Do you listen to music?

Yeah, I like hip-hop and nu-garage.

What A-levels did you take?

Media studies and ICT. I then went to college and did nurse training, but dropped out.

Why did you drop out?

It wasn’t the right course for me, I was only following in my sister’s footsteps. I then got a cleaner’s job and started a course in ‘caring’ at Ignisborough Community College, but then dropped out.

Why?

I couldn’t be arsed.

What did you do after that?

I took up a cleaning job in the school, and rented out with my mum and sister in Sisorca. She owns a really nice regency style house, next to The Dolum actually, there’s my little claim to fame there, and at the moment, I am living in a student apartment in Ignisborough. That is where I met Ada, in the pub, who got me the job. It’s much better un.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Liam rocks my socks!

Thank you, Kym, it has been a pleasure meeting you.

S’alright. Might catch you later if you’re going for a bevvie down the brew…?

Meanwhile, Erik and Leanna have arrived at the Hospital on a temporary basis on a three month contract to gain experience in working in a new environment, having lived and worked in Sweden. Erik has found it hard to adjust to his new conditions, because he is used to his northern home, but Leanna is doing better as she has travelled around Europe with her friends more often. When Sam had kissed Emma, she was confused and did not quite know where their relationship was going, which started their breaking up later in the series. Erik had not really known Leanna but have become quite good friends. He is not used to romance himself, and has mixed feelings about Sam and Emma because they have exchanged a reasonable but a rather 'masked friendship.' Sam does not see Erik as staying, but tries to get on with Erik all the same.

  • That morning, Erik is waking up at the same time as Sam and thinks he sees Leanna and Sam in bed together. He shakes his head when Sam looks at him. Then he sees Sam's shirt on Emma's bed and asks him why. Sam shakes it off as a mistake. Then Erik says 'god morgon' to Leanna and Sam tells them to speak English. That night, Leanna gets up to.

EPISODE 03: Around December

Erik and Leanna go to the St Lucia party with Leanna's boyfriend Matias, and all of their friends while Emma and Sam go to a Christmas party with some of their own friends. At five am Erik does not want to get up because it is an hour early and Sam shakes his bed and turns his matress off. He then jumps on the matress with Erik under it and calls Erik a lazy git while kicking him with his feet. Leanna is sitting up in bed staring at Sam. Erik gets up early and is ready before the others get up. Sam mutters 'now see how you like it having to wait for your peers to get up.' Erik nods as if to agree and walks out.

EPISODE 04: A New Year Shop

Sam stays up working on the computer while Emma does the usual 'come to bed' nagging. She keeps dropping off and dreaming about Mark and Sam gets jealous but comes to bed. Day off. Sam, Emma and Erik stay in bed asleep(?)] while Leanna goes to Ikea to buy Sam and Emma a surprise present that she arranged with Erik. Later, Erik gets up to go and do some shopping. Sam goes with him. They arrange to meet back after they have done seperate shops. Erik goes to Ikea and buys a curtain rail and meets Leanna at the check out who has bought a beautiful curtain. They go and meet Sam who has gifts for them. Meanwhile, as Sam and Emma continue to argue, Leanna and Emma bond over what she should do with Sam. Emma, feeling distant from Sam has given up her nagging and let him get on with it, however the shadows of Sam and Laura's relationship are beginning to surface and they are having trouble staying apart. Although Sam and Emma are still officially together, but they have just given it a 'break,' Sam gives in to his emotions and gets back with Laura, causing ripples in his relationship with Emma and Laura.

EPISODE 05: In And Out

Leanna believes that he will get back together with Emma in her heart, but who knows what the new man, Dave has in store for Emma. Meanwhile, Leanna is having her own problems, having being tired of Matias and men and just wants to settle down with someone and have a family because she is bored with all the dating. However, there is some silver lining to this dark cloud of jealousy, spite and anguish because Erik is experiencing romance that he has never had before, having fallen for a Dutch girl called Ian Van der Tramp, who is well known for being a loudmouth and a man eater, the complete opposite of Erik's personality.

EPISODE 06: Love Feuds

He, with Leanna's help is getting Ian to chase him after they had a first kiss. Emma, still upset with Sam made matters worse by getting her revenge on him (and her regards to Laura) and Laura has decided to split up with Sam because she cannot cope. Laura has admitted to Sam, she quite likes Mark, another doctor. Sam, who is left injured, is empathizing with Leanna over their lovesick emotions and are bonding out of it. Sam senses that something is wrong with Leanna's life and offers to help but Leanna says she can control it. Edna also bonds with Sam.

EPISODE 07:  Chatted Up

Sam and Erik have not really talked to each other much lately, because they are in two different situations, ie - Sam is having a bad time coming out and Erik is having a good, but unnerving ride into romance. Perhaps he can give Sam help?? So in this situation, it leaves Leanna and Edna fully on Sam's side. Laura is half on Sam's side, but finds that he is slipping away from her, what with Mark. Emma is pretty much on her own, but Erik and Kevin still remain out of the situation. Leanna also has sympathy for Emma however, and all she wants is for everyone to cool down. Sam feels abandoned, and he feels that he needs a holiday - perhaps he can go and visit his parents in Cardiff? Emma is refusing to talk to Sam. One day Sam visits a girl that he accidently met from the chat up line called Sarah Winchley. But when he goes round to her apartment, she is not all that she was potted up to be - literally. While sneaking alcohol into his drink, she puts him under her spell, taking advantage by getting his thumb print and hair cells tested. Sam gets suspicious and finds a file. When she sends him home he comes back to collect his coat but while she is asleep he discovers what she had done and sets to delete them but she tries to fight him off. She throws him onto the bed and he is unconsious. She takes a picture of him but when he wakes up, they kiss and he ruins her life. An end of a very, very short romance for Sarah and Sam.

EPISODE 08: Home & Heart

Sam and Erik find a girl of seventeen on the hill called Eva. She looks as if she is about to jump off the cliff but Erik manages to stop her. She does not trust anyone and refuses to let anyone touch her. Later, she begins warming to Erik and begins to trust him and Sam wanders off. However, her trust not complete she runs off and Erik and Sam look for her. Erik takes her back to the hospital and gives her a room to herself saying she'll have to get used to trusting people.

Meanwhile, Sam gets to know another girl called Katie. She is constantly fighting with her huspand and has been hurt in the past. She tricks him into two timing to see if he is a faithful man. When he discovers her trick, he feels cheated and leaves her. Katie realises that he is not a man to fall in love with anyway.

EPISODE 09: Sanity Needle

At the same time, Eva is finding it difficult to survive. She has scars everywhere and does not remember where they are coming from. Sam tries to give her an injection and Erik finds out. Erik argues with Sam because he is trying to protect her. Later, Eva is interviewed by a police detective who is trying to find out how she came to be like this. Eva does not talk but when the detective strokes her hair she goes into a panic and Erik comes in to save her. Erik finds out later that Sam had organised this and forcefully orders Sam to keep his nose out of the business.

EPISODE 10: Double Double

At the time, Sam and Erik also improve their relationship by betting for their countries in the World Cup because Sweden play England by betting for their own countries. This is the only thing that holds them together right now because Erik does not wish to discuss Eva with Sam and Sam begins to suspect that Eva is mentally unstable. Sisorca also win against London Park for the first time ever in the annual London Digital Cup.

EPISODE 11: A New Deliverance

Erik finds it hard to look after Eva and do his work at the same time. Eva is constantly having nightmares and panic attacks and Erik is finding himself with sleeping problems. Leanna is beginning to get concerned for Erik's health but does not do anything because she is so involved with her boyfriend Matias. One day Erik is doing the files and drifts off to sleep. Late afternoon, he wakes up and panics because he has missed a day's work but Sam kindly offers to do the work for him. Suddenly, Laura is thrown into problems because she discovers that she is nine months pregnant and finds herself in labour. Sam comes to the rescue just as (with deliverance from Mark) Laura prematurely delivers a baby boy.

The boy has to be put in an incubator for two weeks because it is having breathing problems. Laura calls him Bradley when they take her out and she discovers that it is Sam's baby. Sam and Laura together begin to plan their future with the baby.

EPISODE 12: The Power of Word

Eva shows Erik some memories of her late grandmother who she looked up to. Erik and Eva bond over this but when Sam comes to suggest that Eva gives up her bed and that she is barely viable, Erik won't hear of it and they have a row. Erik does not want Sam to talk about her as if she is an experiment and he tells Sam to go to his baby and be with his wife.

A few weeks later, Sam and Laura are with the baby and Mark when Leanna walks past and sees them all. She cannot hold her delight and rushes off to tell Emma. Then she sees Sam and Sam is annoyed with her for telling Emma and tells her to leave. Leanna feels guilty. Meanwhile, Maisy is wondering where everyone is because Leanna and Emma are the only ones doing any work. Emma tells her that Sam has had a son and Maisy is surprised but still wants everyone back to work. She summons Sam, Mark and Erik and tells them all to get back to work. Erik later apologises to Sam for the row they had.

EPISODE 13: A Red Letter Day

So Sam and Laura are trying to keep to themselves. Sam is barely friends with Erik but their relationship is to go down hill. Leanna and Emma are getting on really well and Leanna's relationship with her boyfriend is getting seriously passionate.

Sam still wants to talk to Erik but he feels he can't so he sends Erik a letter asking if he could write to a mental hospital to apply Eva to because they would deal with her better. At the same time, Erik and Eva are bonding when they get the letter under the door. Erik doesn't want to upset her so he makes a joke of the letter and throws it in the bin. He writes one back threatening Sam not to touch her and to 'leave the girl alone' and Sam rips it up before Laura can see it. Laura is concerned that he is messing in dangerous business and advises him to take a step back. But one rainy evening Erik is in torment because Eva has gone. Sam and Erik are briefly united when they go on a frantic search for her on Thames Hill but instead they find a girl tied up called Melissa Jonehart who was kidnapped and missing for the weekend. Sam gets distracted by her. What has she got in store for him? She seems to be a bit flirty with him! He takes her to the police station where her parents are waiting and takes care of her later at the hospital. He heals her leg and sends her to bed at midnight and Erik still hasn't returned. At two in the morning Sam calls him and advises him to come back to the hospital.

EPISODE 14: Never let you go

Next morning, Sam turns on the television and sees the report of the missing girl. He tries to contact Erik but Erik's mobile is off. He contacts Leanna who has just slept with Matias and tells her about Eva. He then talks to Matias, but he is not aware of who Sam is or what has happened, he hangs up.

Genetic tests are done on the baby, because Laura is not certain who the father is. Sam walks into her room to see her and Mark is in there. She looks tearful and Sam tries to comfort her. She says that the baby is not his, it is Mark's. Sam leaves without saying a word, leaving her to be forever with Mark.

Two weeks later, the whole neighbourhood is looking for Eva. Seveness launch an appeal to find her with their hit single, Eva, Please Come Back. One night, Eva turns up in Erik's room and weeps while he comforts her saying 'I'll never let you go.' Before daybreak, Sam calls Matias who is in bed with Leanna. Sam and Matias call the Asylum to take Eva away. In the morning, Eva is taken away roughly by security and Erik runs to get her but they force him back. Seveness - Their True Story

22/1/2012

A retrospective look at the band that made London Park famous.

History

7 girls. Each with different backgrounds. Each with different lives. Brought together for the first time. Here, at the end of 8 years, we look back at their journey so far. The joys and sorrows. The hits and flops.

September 1998

The Rovie Mall Outlet, Queen's Stanley, had recently completed a 3-year renovation development, had recently opened, and was looking for a new way to promote its array of independent fashion designers, movie-makers and sound technicians. A poster was put up outside, advertising auditions for a new girl group sensation that would promote its brand through television, as the Rovie Mall had recently established close connections with the London Digital cable channel. The brains behind the operation was none other than Marc Du Fi, chef at the London Park Police Constabulary by day, and founder of Rovies Productions by night. Unfortunately, the idea did not yield the popular interest from the public that it had previously sought, since half of the residents of London Park were descendants of the old wartime factory workers, and the other half of the residents were African immigrants, striving to promote their own trades. Thus, the advertisements were posted far and wide, including other parts of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Bristol, Leeds and Nottingham, and even abroad, in Europe, the United States, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. This provoked a greater response from the public, and hundreds of birds flocked to London Park for auditions. The auditions themselves took place in the Rovie Mall, and each girl was required to sing, dance, pose for a photo, and present a given text, as well as be interviewed separately. Out of these, seven girls were selected, and together they formed the international supergroup – Seveness.

We have caught up with all eight members of Seveness, and each of them can give you their story.

Nicola:
“I was just 16 at the time, and currently studying at stage school in London. All I ever remember when I was younger was that I wanted to sing, dance, and be famous, and I still think that it is every little girl’s dream to do what we do. As you can imagine then, I was very nervous about auditioning, especially as I was one of the younger ones, but luckily my mum came with me to the auditions and supported me throughout the whole process. That day, I bumped into one of my schoolfriends who was also auditioning, so we stuck together. I was very small and not wearing any platform shoes, so she made sure that I didn’t get lost.”

Sandra:
“I was living in Japan at the time, and everyone thought I was a total nutter! I heard about the auditions on the internet, and went over, because my cousin Kate was also auditioning. I passed!”

Claire:
“The audition panel had actually specially requested me to audition, because I had already made myself famous a couple of years earlier as a backing dancer for the 90s trance sensation Lumiere. They had presumably seen my image on billboards around London, dancing around on a blue stage wearing a silver catsuit, and judged my character from that one image, so I was quite lucky really... I think it was about November when I heard about the auditioning, which was quite late, considering that I was not living very far away in Greenwich at the time. My sister looked exactly the same as I did then, so we went to the auditions together, just for laughs. I still think that they picked the wrong girl by accident!”

Sara:
“I had had some modelling experience before in Australia, modelling beachwear and underwear, as well as some soft pornography. I was not sure whether I was exactly what the panel were looking for, and I refused to waste money on flights, so I sent in a portfolio of some of my favourite shots, and they asked me to audition. This was around November/December at the time, quite late, they had already picked their six girls, and had no other option but to expand the number to seven and add me. I suppose I was quite lucky really.”

Elle:
“I was the only local girl from the group that auditioned. I had recently moved back into London Park with my two older sisters, and was hesitant as to whether I should stay because it was where we grew up, and where my father had died. My sisters encouraged me to audition as a reason to stay, and so I went along just for the hell of it. I was surprised when they asked me to come back.”
Recently, we tracked down ex-members Carole and
Kate, to get their story.

Carole:
“I was 28 and living in Birmingham at the time, so already, I was one of the older girls, and there was quite an age difference, which did not make things at all easier. I was working as a hairdresser, and had just moved in with my newly married husband who worked in London at the time. I love shopping, and I still do. I saw the advertisement when I was out shopping on my weekly day-off, and at first I thought nothing of it. But when my husband told me that it was at the place where he worked, he got me into auditioning. That is how I got involved. I went to the auditions with my husband, wearing this stupid brown polo-neck top, but was thrilled when I got in.”

Kate:
“I lived in London Park at the time, and saw the ad on TV in my kitchen. I was currently unemployed, because the Burger King where I worked, had gone bust. My husband was a financial advisor and advised me that joining a girl group would rake in the bucks. I had a lot of personal issues back then, to do with my weight, and thought that going to these auditions would have a knock-on effect for my confidence and self-esteem. I went to the auditions with my mum, because I was afraid of other people judging me, and I was surprised when they picked me. I still think that it was positive discrimination. I added that other dimension to the band that they needed.”

At first, the newly selected girls were modelling clothes, and were pasted all over fashion magazines such as "La Sante Elle / The Health She" and “Her Royal Fashion” but it was only later that they decided to take initiative, form a band and sign up to a record label. This spawned interest for the weekly Rovie Show, an entertainment show which took place at the Rovie Mall on Saturday nights, and was broadcast live on London Digital. The show included a mixture of music, chat, celebrity gossip, generation games, gunge and an exotic soap called “Holidays” based in the African jungle. The girls moved into Kate's house and rented out the house next door, and things progressed fast. Within months, the girls had celebrated 5 top ten hits, including “We Are Seveness”, “I Simply Love You”, “Let You Go”, “Vernenia Road” and “More Than Yesterday”, which were all performed on the Rovie Show, and were soon working on the release of their debut album – “We Are”.

At first, the girls took after the Spice Girls, in the sense that each one had a different character, which was reflected in their colour, personality and dress sense etc etc.

Nicola was the baby spice; sweet, girlie and innocent. Sandra was the outgoing one. Claire was modern, sophisticated, futuristic, idealistic, new-age/avant-garde, you know the rest.

Disaster struck. In 2000, the band started to take their music more seriously, and started touring around the UK. This resulted in them not being able to do the Rovie Show every week and Carole quit the band to pursue a career in television. She was replaced by Canadian country & western singing sensation Kathleen Blackwell.

Recently, we caught up with Carole, and asked her about how things have changed since her days of Seveness.

Firstly Carole, the question we were all asking; What made you leave Seveness?

“I suppose it was the realisation of the direction in which the band were heading. We all had different ideas of the sort of direction, for example, Sara had experience in modelling, and Claire had a background in backing vocals/dancing in pop music, and the band could not cater for all our different tastes. Unfortunately, I was the one who enjoyed the televisual aspect of the career – The Rovie Show, and without The Rovie Show, there was no real incentive to stay in the group.”

How did things change?

“Luckily, the band did not become famous, and I mean – nationally famous, until half way through the release of our debut album, which was the point when we went on tour and released “Dancin’ On Deck” so the change was subtle and discreet. None of the other girls really had a problem with me leaving, as the band had not gelled as a group yet, so the change was swift. I was contracted to do the millennium tour, so I did that and then left after the tour was over. During the tour, Rovies Productions enlisted a replacement through a local, and she took my place. Nobody really noticed the difference, as we looked very alike!”

What happened next?

“Rovies were a great source of help and inspiration to me. It was useful having my husband working for them as well! The company pointed me in the right direction and I made some great connections. I was unemployed for the first few months, having interview after interview, then I was recruited by the news program on London Digital. From there, I launched my own home design program called “House Garden DIY Makeover Challenge” as I had studied engineering at university.”

Has the program been successful?

“Yes! The program has been running for six years, and I have never got bored! We have converted a lot of drab warehouses in London Park into stylish loft apartments and business spaces, and redesigned most of the houses in Sisorca. Watch out. You’ll be next.”

Are you still into shopping?

“Certainly. I love fabrics, they come in all sorts of patterns and colours, and one of my greatest hobbies is upholstery and embroidery.”

Do you ever regret your decision?

“No, not really. I mean, I was only in the band for about a year and a half, so it did not mean that much. I made the wrong decision in joining the band in the first place, however it was a good way of getting my foot in the door with the company, since simply having a husband that worked for Rovies was not enough! The only thing that I miss the most is the glitz and glamour, the wonderful outfits. The band has missed having a classy, glamorous, well I hesitate to say posh – character, but this has been all for the better, as my replacement has proven to be an important leader since Kate left – the key to the survival of the band, and I could only wish that upon the other girls. Moreover, I have become a lot more confident and have a more positive outlook on life.”

Do you still keep in contact with the other girls?

“Well, no, not really, to be honest! We all have different lives, and they are far out of my league with their successful careers. However, I have been very much in touch with Kate since she left the band, and she has proven herself a true, loyal friend. She has named me godmother to her daughter, and we still occasionally pop out for a dessert, Pimms and a giggle in the sun!”

The band went on to release “Dancin’ On Deck” and their new album. This is when the band really struck gold. The album topped the charts for weeks, and the band went on to earn millions. The millennium tour was a sell-out, and raised their profile to such an extent that they supported international superstars Britney Spears and Nancy Violet. Kate miraculously lost weight on a personal training program and things were looking up.

During 2001, the band went on tour again, this time in the States, to promote their first album, and construction work commenced for their own stadium that was to open in September that year. The new stadium was known as the Swan Arena, and Seveness released a single “Swan 2001” in commemoration of its opening.

On September 7th, the stadium opened its doors for the first time to let in thousands  of fans. The stage included a state of the art multi-million pound cinema screen, and the floor had expensive lighting effects and rising platforms. Jet seats were designed to hold drinks bottles and could rise, fall and collapse according to the wishes of fans. The gig was a sell-out and signified the second stage in the band’s career.

In 2002, Seveness launched their second album, “See You There”  and released a string of singles, that included “See You There”,”Speak To You”, and ”Life Life Life”/ ”Vida Vida Vida” which featured them dancing on the rooftops of warehouses in London Park in the dead of night. Many of these singles hit the top 10 in the charts, and more successes were to follow with singles “Venus Coming”, ”You My Love”, “Heartburn” and “Come On Down”.

Later that year, Seveness were commissioned to write the soundtrack to Rovies Productions feature film, “Love Story” starring Nancy Violet. A double A-side formed the theme tune to this epic, “When I Dream”/”Tell Me”. In spring 2002, Seveness recorded a charity single pledging the return of a missing girl in the area, “Eva, Please Come Back” but this was after they released their second album.

In Summer 2002, Seveness were set to make their summer tour around the world, to promote their second album. However, in June, disaster struck.

Kate suddenly and unexpectedly disappeared, and two weeks later, announced that she would be quitting the band before the tour went ahead. None of the other girls had any idea of this news until it had been confirmed, as she had signed the papers in secret and left the house. This came as a great shock to the band. It was later revealed that Kate was pregnant, and had decided to put her family in front of her pop career. Her pregnancy had made her unable to go ahead with the tour, and she had decided that it would be better to sign out as soon as possible. As we all know, she was the only married member of the band, was very dedicated to her husband Garth, and had a strong relationship with her mother who had supported her all through Seveness. The tour was cancelled, and many fans predicted the end.

Nicola was particularly upset, and was rumoured to quit the band as well. For a while the nation were on tenterhooks, and nothing was heard all summer.

In 2003, the band re-emerged onto the scene, revamped by Kathleen with a new single. They ditched their stereotypical characters and scrubbed up. Using the internet, the band quickly re-established their fan base, and “All You Need” shot right to the top of the charts, with the promise of a third album.

This was followed by “Out Of My World”, ”Superstarlight” and “It Never Dies”. Their most successful single was “Dark Child” – a moody, depressing ballad that emphasised their new darker, rockier image.

In summer 2003, the band went on tour to make up for their cancelled tour, and this raised the profile of their new image. The tour was named “Seveness Go Global” and was televised on London Digital in an eight-part series of documentaries. The plan was for each member to travel to a continent, tour each continent as a solo artist, acquire followers and meet up on a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean for a special gala concert. Nicola toured Africa, Sandra toured Asia – and her native Japan, Claire travelled to South America, Sara toured to the Pacific – and her native Australia, Elle toured Europe, and Kathleen toured North America – and her native Canada. Hayda Loral did not take part in the documentary. The girls met up on a cruise liner in secret and performed a free gala concert to thousands of surprised holidaymakers. This was broadcast live on London Digital.

Since then, the girls have been working on their fourth album. Two of the girls have gone on to have successful solo careers. Claire released her debut album “Aqua” in the break of 2002, and Kate has pursued a solo career since she left the band, and the birth of her new daughter, Grace. Carole has pursued a successful career in television and fashion design and works closely with her husband at Rovies.

One member who we have not interviewed yet is Kathleen Blackwell. We spotted her right before a television appearance and profiled her.

First of all, how did you make it into the band?

“Good question. Many people say that I entered the band through the back door. This much was partly true. I had grown up with music, sung from an early age, and played the guitar in a rock band when I was in school when I was growing up in America. I was actually born in Ireland, but my parents were Canadian, and I had gone to school with Elle when I was a little girl. We moved to America when I was still in my childhood. My sister Bella, was actually living and working in London Park during the time of Seveness, and was a close friend of the sisters of certain members of the band, so I was known. It was her that got me involved, because her husband was also working for Rovies.”

How did you find the move?

“Well, I was gigging in cafés around America when I was asked, and I was spotted by none other than Nancy Violet, and she asked me if I was interested in moving over. Of course, this was quite a life change, as it was moving from a rural, countrified life of singing in local cafés to the being part of an up-and-coming band in the capital city of England, so I was hesitant at first. But then I remembered that this had always been my life dream, and somehow I knew that I could not miss this opportunity. It was nice because I knew Elle quite well from school days, and I was older than most of the other girls so it was easy to fit in. The other girls were really nice and friendly and helped me to settle in. It was all kept very quiet at first, and during our first performance on Top Of The Pops nobody mentioned my name at all. It was only later that I became famous, so it was an easy, gradual change.”

How else did they try and cover up the change?

“Hehe...The other girls had mentioned that I was very pretty, and had a strong singing voice, but our wardrobe assistants and hairdressers made me look a lot like Carole at first. I had to go back to my natural hair colour and pick up her image, gradually growing back into my own image. I thought it was all quite unnecessary to be honest, but it seemed to work best for the band.”

Kate quit soon after you joined the band. How did you cope with that?

“I was still relatively new to the band, and Kate had always been the driving force behind Seveness, strong willed, encouraging and mature. With her out of the picture I suddenly had this new responsibility to look after the other girls, since they were younger than me. I knew that Seveness could not continue in its present condition, so I took the others under my wing, tried to reinvent the band, and I think it worked.”

How did you change the band?

“Well first of all we ditched our stereotypical characters. We were not the Spice Girls and this was not the nineties anymore. We decided to be ourselves a bit more, and let our natural beauty shine through. Then, because I was listening to a lot of rock and American music, we brought those influences into our music. Our music was too poppy when Kate was in the band, and without that strong impulse, we were free to let our music mature a lot more. We made it more acoustic and less manufactured, and we decided to move away from Rovies and make our own way in the music world. The first step was moving out of Kate's house, out of London Park and letting her raise her family in peace. We bought an apartment in central London and here we have a lot more space.”

What did Claire make of that?

“She was still into her techno stuff, but had her own career already so that was fine. I got her into the scene, and being very open-minded has allowed the band to go in that direction, and continue her love of pop/trance in her own solo career. She loves the new apartment!”

Lately, we had the pleasure of interviewing all seven members of Seveness in an extended documentary on London Digital, shortly before the release of their fourth album. Here are some of the highlights.

Hey Girls! Please take a seat. Describe yourselves.

“Hi, I’m Nicola and I live in London. I’m very carefree, energetic and full of beans! Some might say I have a very childlike approach to life, but I think that it is important to just be yourself and look at life through eyes of innocence.”

“Hiya! I’m Sandra, and I’m half-Japanese. My mum works in a factory over there, though I don’t know why I’m telling you that on first meeting, but there we go, that says a lot about me. I’m a bit random and a bit woo-har, but I can often be very quiet and insular. Generally, I’m a bit extreme.”

“Heya, I’m Claire. I would often be described as the calming influence on the others. I’m the quiet one in the band, and love to keep up-to-date on the latest travel offers, sunglasses, shoes, handbags and watches. People have often been mystified by my Cleopatra looks.”

“Good day mate. My name is Sara. I’m a bit blond and a bit dippy, so you’ll have to get used to that I’m afraid. Some people would describe me as a slapper, but it’s not like that, people just don’t understand. I love life, and all that it has to offer, and seek to enjoy it. Who can go wrong with that? I have two older sisters, living in London, and my parents live out in the outback.”

“Hello. I’m Elle! I have ginger hair, brown eyes, and enjoy clubbing, gigging, singing and dancing. I was born in London Park, but grew up in Ireland with my mother and two older sisters. I’m very girly and giggly, and although I am a popstar, I am really just your regular girl next door.”

“Hey, I’m Kathleen, but you can call me Kat. Okay, a bit complicated here, but my parents are Canadian, I was born in Ireland and I moved to the States during childhood. Got that? I’m into my alternative rock music, have played the guitar, violin and sung in country clubs since teens, and I generally love music. I’m creative and superstitious, and can be bitchy at times, but you just gotta learn to take me or leave me.”

How have you changed throughout the band? Nicola.

“Well, I used to be the ‘baby spice’ of the band, very girly and immature which probably annoyed the hell out of people. I used to be into the whole plastic-face teeny-boppish aspect of the band, the glitter, the pigtails, the flowersome dresses, and acting all sweet and innocent when really I was not. I’m sure you have heard all the dirty stories about me and my sordid affairs in the paper, I have nothing to hide. I could often be cheeky, almost to the point of rudeness, thinking that my puppy-dog eyes would plead my innocence. But I have changed all that now.”

In what way?

“I am a lot more grown-up now. I mean, not in a personality sense, I still look at life with the same innocent eyes – that is me, and I cannot change that. But I have grown-up morally and I try to reflect that in the way I present myself. It is important to stand up for yourself and act like you are.”

Do you regret your ‘babyish’ image?

“No no no, not really. It was a character that I imposed upon myself as a kind of safety blanket against the scrutiny of the public eye. It was a front that I projected, as a stereotypical counterpart within the group, to make that group work. But it was a stage that I had to go through, and I think it is a stage that every little girl has to go through to become a woman. I think that I appealed to the younger audience because I was trying to identify it, and project its nature through my own character. Although I have ditched the pigtails and the baby blue/pink dresses, I am still the same person. I am as I am!”

What about you, Sandra?

“Well, for one thing, I am less mad! Less overtly mad anyway. I have mellowed out a lot more this year. The band has changed direction – we have stopped trying to be exciting, there is less hype about it. I used to be the loudest in the band, the most dominant, the non-stop party animal – but the excitement was so forced, and so contrived...I mean, I am still a bit mad in personality, that is not going to change, but I am less exaggerated about it. I have quietened down a bit, which gives the others space to show their fun sides. In fact, I have gone from being the loudest to being one of the quietest!”

What made you bring about that change?

“I guess that the public were becoming a bit tired of my mouth and my outbursts, and it was time to let some of the other members of the band shine a bit. I was not really like that naturally, and the band were trying to be themselves a bit more. Others have often commented that I put on a front too much, and can be withdrawn when I am not in the limelight. I used to hide that, but this change in the band allowed me the opportunity to show my sensitive side a little more.”

Claire, how have you changed?

“Well, to be honest with you, I have probably changed the least out of everyone. Yes, I’m still the quiet one in the band, and still the most calm in tense situations, but I guess that the thing that has changed about me most are my tastes in music.

It was hard for me to let go of the nineties electronically produced poppy trance material but Kat has shown me that acoustics provides more space for expression. And I guess that I change with the times, I am always into the newest fashions and trends, but that has always been the same. I guess I never stop changing, that I appear to stay the same.”

And what about you, Sara?

“Oh God...I used to be such a stereotype. It was the nineties, and I was influenced by the baywatch hype and the Marilyn Monroe/Pamela Anderson blonde-bombshell image. I used to be such a neurotic tart, such a poser, so obsessed with men. Nowadays, there is a lot more diversity in the image of the ‘ideal woman’ and you no longer have to be blond to be beautiful.”

How has that changed you?

“Well, I guess, in the same way as Nicola, I have grown up a lot more. And that has reflected itself in my dress sense, I suppose. I no longer wear such revealing outfits and I have gone more upmarket.”

How have you changed, Lena?

“I used to have, like, no personality. I was the ‘other’ one in the group, used to fill the gaps. In the same way, I have found it hard to have much personality because again, I was not being myself enough. In reality, I am very stubborn, but often quite quirky and have funny ideas. I have let these ideas come through. Many people look at me as being fairly erratic, but hey, with me, what you see is what you get.

Describe yourself in three words.

“Fun. Flirty. A bit funny.”

Okay, over to you Kathleen.

“When I first entered Seveness, I was put under a lot of pressure to fit in with the rest of the group, because it had already established itself under a certain brand, and I was the new one, so I couldn’t just walk on in there and change things, because the band worked in a certain way, as it was. As well, there was trying to replace the gap that Carol left, so I had to live up to a number of expectations. However, I did not disregard my rustic roots, and I kept a low profile when I first entered the band, letting Sandra, Sara and Elle be the dominant ones. There were a couple of things which changed my role within the band – Kate leaving, and the band moving away from Rovies, which gave us, the members, a lot more control over the way things were. The other members of the band were too attached to the way things were as Seveness, and gave up hope, so I felt it was my responsibility to re-invent things as they were.”

Yes, we know that and all, but how did it change you?

“I suddenly had a lot more freedom to be who I wanted to be. It was a different band so roles were shifting. I took this opportunity to be myself a bit more, and encourage the others to be themselves. I was no glamour-goddess in real life, Carol pulled off that image with style, but my style is a lot more earthy and cult-influenced.”

How do you see yourself in the band now, as opposed to how you were before?

“Being the oldest, I see myself as a lot more of a leading figure within the band. Before, I was more modest and understated, but I feel that I have grown with the band, and it has become more a part of me.”

Now, it is time for some truths. Are you ready to spill the beans?

Sandra
Of course!

Nicola
We are always ready to spill the beans!

Do you write any of the music yourselves?

Lena
Kat, bless her, is the most musical one of all of us. She writes a lot of our material, and co-writes quite a bit too with our producers. I don’t know how she does it, she can just strum away on her guitar and pull songs out of the blue. She has a very distinctive singing voice, and often sings folk songs from her home country.

Kat
Well, a lot of what I sing is based on folk songs, but I like to add to them and change them based on my own experiences. Plus, Claire plays the piano, so we usually gather around the piano when we are at the later stages of a song, and the others suggest tunes or put words to them.

Claire
Kat often likes to jam along with me on her guitar and the others add in vocal lines.

Sara
Apart from Kat and Claire, none of the rest of us play musical instruments, we just use our voices. In fact, Nicola and I hardly do anything. We just giggle when we get it wrong, and get really stupid.

Nicola
Lol. Sandra has some wacky ideas, don’t you?

Sandra
Most of my ideas are quite wacky, yes, and quite bizarre, so the others just politely tell me to shut up and I get the hint!

Which of the girls are more to do with the image of the band?

Elle
I suppose we all are really. I really admire Vany Petruo from the German band called No Angels, I have met her a couple of times and I like her style. It is quirky yet sophisticated at the same time. I think it is important to retain a natural style.

Very quickly, before we depart, how do you see the band in the future?

Nicola
“I suppose I am quite naïve in a way, and believe that we all have a good chance of succeeding. We are all quite strong, and work well together, so we should be able to get through anything that comes our way. These girls are like my sisters, and sisters are doin it for themselves. That is the way we do things in this band.”

Sandra
“I disagree. I am quite negative, and I don’t think it will last more than a year. There comes a time when people have to move on and accept things as they are changing. I won’t be sad when the band comes to an end, more happy that I have had the best decade of my life.”

Claire
“Oh no, I am very positive. I don’t think that the band will stay the same as it is now, but we have a product, and we aim to bring that product into the 21st century. Certainly, that product will have to adapt itself to the changing times, but I am fairly confident that Seveness will survive into the next decade.”

Sara
“Me too. More than anything, I don’t think I could bear the thought of parting with these girls, they are gorgeous! I think that would stop us splitting up.”

Elle
“I think that the band has had to go through a lot of hard times, and that just proves that we are stronger together. The experiences we have had, the laughter and the tears, stands us in good stead for the next few years. In the future, I see ourselves as becoming an international icon. We have tasted international success, but circumstances have snatched that away from the bite. Yet we could work with what we have, our strengths and become something big.”

Kathleen
“Yes, but, these hard times have had a negative impact. And you cannot deny the reality that our tastes will change, that we will drift apart one day. All good things must come to an end. It might be next year, it might be in five years, who knows? Only time will tell.”

And as for Kate...

Kate
“I don’t think that the band will last more than a year, if it ever lasts that long. I have moved on ages ago. I think it would be easier for the girls to grow up a little and move on, now that they have the support of each other. Besides, family beckons.”

College Des Sirènes - School/Conservatory of Excellence For Girls Aged 11-18.

20/11/2004

College Des Sirènes is set high up in the mountains in the south of France, a traditional French chateau overlooking a river. The standards here are excellent, the school includes a full auditorium and atrium along with a chapel and eight classrooms. Any girl attending is encouraged to play a musical instrument or sing and to study well in their own time for building up their knowledge and stretching their abilities to the full.

There is no homework here, but girls are expected to expand their minds when not in the classroom.

Isabelle became the second head to run this school of excellence in 1976. Isabelle has a great background of musicianship. She can play many instruments and has played the first harp and piano at the Conservatory of the Blue Mountains. She has composed a very grand selection of her fine operas and concertos in the time that she has worked here. Indeed, one of her most famous operas was ‘Le Sirène,’ a sparkling piece which illustrates her pure talent and flare for creativity in music. She can also speak English and Spanish fluently and teaches them here along with drama, literature, culture of art and music and holy scripture.

Firemen

23/7/2004

My characters are called Joe, Matty and Jack. Joe Cambridge is 24. He is very outgoing. He has dark black hair and he is very tanned. Matty has blonde hair.

Susanna is 21 and she has a sting in her tail! She has short blond hair tied up with a hairband and blue eyes. Despite her good looks, her personality is no match. She can be very blunt when talking directly to people, often bossing them around to make her feel more in control. She can get very angry when things are not going her way, yet she can talk about her self very uninterestingly.

However, when something affects her, she can react very warmly and will do anything if it means saving lives. She is very passionate about her job and won’t let any riffraff get in the way of it.

Susanna is a Londoner, born and bred. She owns a flashy car and doesn’t have much of a life outside the fire force. She treats strangers like dirt, and you can only bond with her by taking the biscuit out of her.

Erik: Not clothes! I like a dark, stormy blue but yellow is cool.
Leanna: I like combining dark reds and purples with white.
Sam: Definately blue, but bright red is an eye opener.
Sophie: Pastel colours; blues, pinks, yellows- smooth and sultry.

04. What is your favourite song?

Emma: ‘Independent Women’ by Destiny’s Child
Erik: ‘Main Offender’ by The Hives
Leanna: The Cranberries’ ‘War Child’
Sam: Got to be ‘Year 3000’ by Busted
Sophie: At the moment it’s ‘Gotta do it for you’ by Britney

05. What is your favourite country apart from your own?

Emma: Turkey, the ideal working holiday destination!
Erik: Probably Norway. My grandfather was Norwegian.
Leanna: The nightlife is buzzing in Denmark and Germany.
Sam: Spain ‘cause it is where I met Sophie.
Sophie: Spain. I have close connections there.

06. What is your favourite time of year?

Emma: Summer holidays, because I get time to myself.
Erik: Christmas, when it’s all snowy and fires are lit.
Leanna: St Lucia’s day. We get to glam up and strut our stuff!
Sam: Halloween’s night is quite a laugh.
Sophie: Those moments out of work where you are far from work.

07. What is your favourite dance?

Emma: The Macarena!!!
Erik: No dancing is not my thing really. Slowdance if I have to.
Leanna: Although I enjoy nightclubs, who can resist a slowdance?
Sam: Those Elvis moves pull quite a punch.
Sophie: Surprisingly, it is probably the tango.

08: What is your favourite clothes shop?

Emma: Topshop and Morgan, we love you. M&S is a hero as well!
Erik: I just go anywhere. If I see something I like, I may buy it.
Leanna: I buy my clothes internationally on the internet.
Sam: Usually I like Gap, but wear sports stuff as well.
Sophie: Zara and New Look but some I buy on American websites.

09: What is your lucky decimal?

Emma: Five, the number of nails I polish on each hand!
Erik: 1. What do ya expect!
Leanna: Three, I suppose...
Sam: A magic seven for me.
Sophie: I don’t believe in luck so just mark me for a zero.

10: What is your favourite room in the house?

Emma: The bathroom. I can have my privacy there.
Erik: Kitchen. I need my sustenance!
Leanna: The lounge is great for chilling or socialising.
Sam: My study, because I know I am in control.
Sophie: The bedroom. Magical things happen there.

Erik and Leanna are training as head nurses, and have experience by working in a paramedic sector and children's hospital respectively. Leanna accepts that Erik is training as head nurse and, for once, has lower authority to him. Erik is focused on the hospital running smoothly and everything to work out, no matter what. Edna has worked at the hospital for some time, and works closely with children, especially a delightful, playful little girl called Rosie, Erik on the other hand is left to look after the elderly Jack Frost who has stayed out of the hospital out of the cold for some months. Emma and Laura get to fight over the male patients and Sam deals with whichever patients he can. Kevin and Mark tend to work with handicapped people who have physical, mental and even moral disabilities.

Episode 10: A Very Bad Trip

Sam Morris went to Cirro Citerrio. He spent 45 minutes trying to decide which shirt to buy. In the end he just thought "Oh stuff it, I'll have this T-shirt with a slogan about being drunk on it". He also bought a denim bag for £100 which looked quite girly. Afterwards a tramp stole his money, he got mocked by townies and a pigeon pood on his head. It was a bad shopping trip.

Erik Andersson went to River Island to look for some shirts. He ended up getting some trousers which were boring and had no expression. He also got offered a reward card. After days of stressful deciding what to do with it, he realised that he had to work sixteen hours a week to claim the benefits, and we all know that Erik is a lazy arse who does not do much work because he spends too much time eating burgers.

Hospital Diaries Season 2

HOSPITALS Season 2

Episode 01: Cross match

(Flashes of the blood transfusion, and the intruder coming in to swap over the two blood samples)

We see the back room of the hospital with glass smashed everywhere and chemicals spilled as if searched. Police officers are examining this mess and conducting investigation of a possible intruder to the building.

Doctors and nurses are doing their best, to continue their work around the rest, but Sam is watching them.

Emma and Mark come and join him, and wander why the surgery is in its state. Emma just jokes about it.

Erik is lying in bed in the daylight asleep, but we can hear the bustle of gossip outside, and the ambulance.

In the ambulance, the boy that had the blood transfusion a year ago is having breathing problems, and the paramedic Lucy is trying to stabilize him. His real mother is angry but demands Lucy to save her own son.

The police officers finish questioning Sam because Sam does not know anything about the early break in. Sam goes off to do some other work, but Erik follows him, to ask if he can help, but Sam orders him to rest.

Emma is training a new nurse called Lucy, and is setting a bad example, having been caught having cigars outside the hospital but Lucy joins her regardless. Ward sister Maisy orders Emma to see her in her office.

The ambulance arrives at the hospital, and the boy is taken to Mark. He collapses so Mark stabilises him.

Sam sees Sophie coming down the stairs, and walks over to her. He asks her furiously what she is doing at the hospital because it is a bad time. Sophie asks why and Sam tells her to look for herself. Sophie falters and gasps, and then agrees with him. She kisses him and runs out of the hospital, before he can follow her.

Emma is in the office, being told off by Maisy. Maisy is shouting about how she is violating the rules of the rules of the hospital hygiene and tbat the trainee nurse only has two more chances of discipline, before she is not admitted to work in the hospital. Emma nods and walks out, putting the cigarette packet on a table.

Mark checks out the boy's blood and finds traces of a virus. He has to go and tell the boy and his mum. His mum refuses to go and speak to Mark in private, and demands to know what is wrong, such as if there is a virus. Mark falters, and she sits down frightened. Mark has to admit that the boy does have a lethal virus.

Mark is explaining what he found to Sam, and Sam asks him who performed the transfusion about a year ago. Mark admits that it was him under the forcing of Sam. Sam asks him why he did not think to check if it was the right sample and Mark says he did. He asks whether Sam thinks he would do this deliberately.

Sam just says that Mark could get charged for doing this and Mark asks how he could convict without any proof. Sam backs off and Mark forcibly shows him the chemical record of the blood used in the transfusion

Sam rids his anger of Mark and tells Erik of his suspicions. Erik, who has not had a chance to speak as yet advises Sam to take a more professional attitude to his career; If it is not in the records, it did not happen. This gives Sam an idea and he slaps Erik on the back for being a pillar in his despair. Erik is left confused.

The police are clearing up at the end of the day and one officer is phoning to say that footprints were found in the staff bedroom and a photo was found on the floor nearby. 'Heaven knows how he managed to escape.'

We see a fly up the stairs, and in the staff bedroom. A photo of Sophie is lying on the floor, out of its frame.

Emma awkwardly explains to the trainee nurse, Lucy that she cannot have the place because of discipline, and that rules were broken. Lucy advises Emma that she needs a nicotine patch and walks out of the door.

Sam is rummaging through the CCTV footage of the surgery, and comes across the blood transfusion, over a year ago. We see slow motion flashes of what happened then but not including the intruder that came in.

This blends into a view of the boy, lying awake at night, in the hospital, with the curtain drawn around his bed. A couple of nurses are heard, gossiping in the distance. We then see a shadow of a man reach down to the boy and ask 'where is she.' The boy panicks, and says that he does not know what the man talks about. The man takes out a needle and gives the boy an injection. The boy screams 'I don't know who she even is!!'

Episode 02: Search Light

(Flashes of the previous episode, and Leanna on the plane flying back to Sweden.)

SPOILER NOTE
Note the virus was in the boy and that is why he returned to hospital. But the intruder extracted the virus but it was too late because the virus had already done its damage and the boy was left to die from it after.

The intruder was taking the virus out because he needed to use it for his plans to force Sophie to run away.

The nurses are talking to Sam, saying that there was a disturbance during the night, but the intruder was not caught. The boy is unconsious. Mark decides to do a check up on him and starts by looking at his blood.

Mark is being interviewed by the police who also noted the disturbance. They are asking him questions as if he was the one that mixed it. In one crucial question, Sam interrupts them to ask if he can borrow Mark.

Leanna returns to the hospital in a bus, and comes to the entrance. She tells Maisy that she has returned.

Sam and Mark are looking at the blood sample through a microscope because there is no sign of any virus. Sam says that the boy will live, but not for very long, because the virus had already done a lot of damages. Mark goes over to the boy who is there with his mother and asks him how he feels. The boy says he feels a lot better but still very weak. Mark feels unable to break the news, of what is going to happen to him soon.

Mark is being interviewed by the police again, and he reports the boy's condition as 'stable'. The police are satisfied and take their leave but they warn Mark that this is not over and they are marking him suspect.

Erik is in bed and hears gossip outside of Leanna's return. He shakes his head, thinking that it was just a dream and goes back to sleep again. Leanna is being interviewed by a stunned Sam, and he grants her the job as a nurse. He asks her why she came back, and she says that she cared for the people she was leaving.

Leanna walks through the hospital in her nurse uniform, provoking strange reactions from people working.

Mark catches up with her, and says that he needs help. He escorts her into the doctors' office to talk to her.

Mark is in the middle of telling her about the boy. Leanna is clearly upset by the news. Together they both recollect. We see flashes of the blood transfusion, this time with the intruder, and Sam tripping him up so he can catch him, but the intruder escaping. Mark reckons that Sam might believe him if he tells him this.

As soon as he mentions Sam, Sam walks into the office. He apologises for suspecting Mark. Mark looks at him coldly and says that they cannot be friends because of their differences between them. He leaves Sam and Leanna alone in the room. Sam asks Leanna if they were talking of him, but she just shakes her head.

Sam takes Leanna up to the bedroom to drop her belongings off, in the process, meeting Erik, who she had not seen for months. Erik says hello, shyly and cannot believe it. He then walks out of the room. Leanna is confused, by this strange behaviour, but Sam just tells her that Erik was hurt, when she left last summer.

Sam and Leanna are watching the boy. He is finding trouble to talk and his mother does not know what to do. Leanna is upset, and asks him whether he remembers her. He nods his head and then falls unconscious.

Mark is looking around in the hospital files for some evidence, to support his case, and finds a CCTV tape.

He puts it on, but it is not very clear because it only goes on a rate of half a frame per second and shadowy.

The boy is losing oxygen at an incredible rate. He is rushed into theatre. The team try everything, but he is losing oxygen faster than can be supplied to his bloodflow. His temperature levels are falling. Sam reports that the symptoms are kicking in after a period of resting and they will need urgent methods to revive him.

Sam walks into the waiting room where the mother is. She asks if he is dead. His facial expression says it.

She mentions that he died just like his father. Sam says that the person who did this will be found sooner.

Leanna is upset at Erik for being landed into this and he says that perhaps she should not have left in the first place. She also mentions how she has lost contact with her friends. Erik says she has her friends here.

This makes her feel a little better, although she just smiles politely, and says to him, 'Yes, thank you Erik.'

The police come in on Mark watching the video, and say that on the grounds of the boy's death, they will be  arresting him on suspicion of murder. Mark tries to protest but he is shut up and taken out of the hospital.

Episode 03: Lethal Virus

SPOILER NOTE
Note that Lucy had the virus tested on her by the intruder to see how she would react.

Leanna visits Mark in prison, and announces to him that she is presenting the CCTV evidence in court as a defence witness saying how she picked up the tape, after he was taken away. He asks her where she gets confidence and she says that she had been through it before when wanting to adopt the boy. Mark realises how she is now covering him for his death and thanks her. Her five minutes up, she walks out of the prison.

Lucy walks into hospital looking weak and asks for a doctor. Maisy recognises her and calls out for Emma. Emma comes along, and helps her into a bed asking for her problem. Lucy says that she cannot remember.

Erik is showing Sam a virus, from a droplet of water that was found on the scene of the second breaking in.
Sam finds that the virus reacts with white blood cells and notes that the virus could be fatal. He tells him he should take over, being a doctor. Erik apologetically suggests reacting it with various blood components and that it could be linked to the blood transfusion case. Sam needs to control the substance immediately.

In the court room, the judge brings on a defence witness. Leanna spectacularly presents her case, using the CCTV evidence. The jury are impressed with her people skills, and Mark begins to feel much more hopeful.

Emma is examining Lucy and noting down all her symptoms which include: general aches around the body
and head, a dry cough but Emma records her temperature to be over 40°C and recognises these symptoms.

Sam has finished reacting the blood with all the possible blood components and is stuck. He then realises that if the virus was found in water, then maybe it must contaminate water. He takes a dropper, and puts
a drop of water in a dish. He then adds in some of the virus. Looking through a microscope, he can see that the bacteria are bonding with the water droplets. He calls Erik to tell him that heat make

Episode 04: The girl next door

Erik: "I mean, who is this girl anyway? How do you know we can trust her?"
Sam: "Why do you think that?"
Erik: "Don't you think that it's a little strange that she decides to move over here so she could just be near you?"
Sam: "She has a new job at the swimming pool!"
Erik: "Yes, that's what she's been telling you. Has she ever actually gone to work? She often hangs around the hospital!

(Flashes of previous encounters with Sophie: Sam seeing her at first in Spain, Sophie walking along smiling at Sam, Sophie taking Sam home in the car, more flashes of her smiling and a voices heard saying 'who is this girl?,' and 'she's my friend,' and a picture of Sophie wanting Sam back.)

Sam is in the therapy chair talking to the therapist on his suspicions about Sophie. Therapist asks them if they had sex.
We see the bed with Sam and Sophie in it and their undressed state clearly shows that it did go further than planned.
Sam and Sophie, shyly, wish each other good morning. Sophie looks love-struck, while Sam looks a little more worried.
Sam says nothing.

Leanna comes to see Mark in prison and tells him that she is giving evidence. He asks how she got the confidence. She said that she had been through it before when wanting to adopt the boy. This seems to make Mark more confident. She tells him that she is going to present the CCTV camera evidence as a witness to the case. Her five minutes up, she walks out of the prison, glaring at the officer.

Sam has left the room and Sophie looks at herself in the mirror and realises for the first time what she is doing.

In the courtroom, the judge brings on the first witness. Leanna spectacularly presents her case, and the jury are impressed with her people skills. Sam, not in the jury, but watching is pensive, and then leaves with an idea.

(He is reminded of his suspicions of Sophie)

Back at the hospital, Emma complains that her wallet and credit cards are missing to Sam while they are working. Then they see Sophie waiting for Sam, and Emma sarcastically wishes him luck and walks off. Sophie goes to Sam and says that she needs to talk to him about something important. Sam accepts and just as she is about to tell him, Erik comes and says that he needs to see Sam urgently, adding professional business on to the end of his sentence. Sophie says that it is nothing that cannot wait.

Sophie gets a call on her cell phone, and doesn't know who it is. The voice demands to know the names of all the workers in the hospital. Reluctantly, she gives them and he tells her to meet him at a certain place at a certain time.

Erik is showing Sam a virus he found which was contaminating the water, reported by one of the patients. Looking through the microscope, Sam sees that they react to the blood cells in the human body. Sam notes that this could be a possibly fatal virus and asks to take over. Erik suggests that he tries reacting it with various blood components, and that it could be linked to the blood transfusion enquiry. Sam wants to control the substance immediatly.

Mark is sitting nervously in prison, awaiting his verdict. Flashes of the afternoon wearing on, and Mark and Sam are in two different situations. Mark is awaiting the verdict of the blood transfusion mystery and Sam is sweating over the new mysterious threat.

In the evening, Sam and Sophie are having a walk, and beginning to feel more at ease with one another. Sam is talking about how hard it is at work with and his mind is on the mystery. Sophie notes that she got a phone call and the meeting place where they are. They stop, and Sam asks her what she wants to talk to him about. She tries to avoid it but he presses her. She suggests that he might want to sit down, and then she tells him that she is pregnant. Sam is speechless.

The verdict is passed from jury member to jury member, then to the officials and to the judge. He opens it and reads that Mark is discharged from the National Health Service and is to remain in custody for his sentence to be decided. While he reads out the charges, Mark protests that he didn't do it, and is held back. Leanna stands there, doubtfully.

Sam is searching through medical records to see if Sophie had a pregnancy test delivered through hospital. He finds a file with her name. There is a photograph inside of her. He pauses and looks at her face in the picture, trying to see what she is hiding from him, if anything. When he makes to put the file back, a slip of paper falls out. He picks it up and unfolds it. It contains her name, her endometriosis diagnosis and that she applied for In-Vitro Fertilization Treatment in August. The prospect suddenly dawns on him that he is to become a father.

Episode 05: A Happy New Year

The key behind this episode is that Ryan originally had a minor form of legionella and modified the blood transfusion so it was contained within the boy. When Sophie came to the hospital, he knew this and tried to get her out by breaking into the hospital (see Episode 1 Cross Match) He realised that he needed to get the woman of his dreams back by starting a biological attack, so she would flee from that new area where her heart was not in. In doing so, he broke into the hospital again to retrieve the legionella from the boy of the blood transfusion and containing it enough to spread (see Episode 2 Search Light). He also teamed up with Matias to try and get her because Matias was more closely related to the people within the hospital.

He made a deal so Matias could also get the opportunity to murder his sworn enemy, Sam (see Season 1)

The new virus was tested on a very unfortunate victim (Lucy, a trainee nurse see Episode 2 Search Light).

Flashbacks: of the end of the leaving party with Matias staring at Sam, broken glass on the hospital floor, a boy dying shouting 'Where is She?,' Leanna and Sam watching the CCTV footage and Sophie giving the names of the workers in the hospital.

We see shadowy people running along a path in the wilderness, and hear Sam saying that she should be somewhere around, and he can hear her breathing. Eventually, they get to a clearing near a layby on the motorway, and a van is reversing towards them. The van stops. A man gets out and reveals himself. Leanna gasps, 'oh my god, it's you.'
Four hours earlier:

It is New Year's Eve, and Sam, Erik and Leanna are at the town hall having a party with everyone in Sisorca. Leanna is with Sam and Erik, because her friends are in Sweden. While they are drinking, Erik asks why Emma is not there. They talk generally, and Sam also mentions that he didn't bring Sophie because of something which he does not mention.

Sophie is at the other end of the hall, and she is watching Sam. Then she quietly slips out to a phone box.

Outside, Sam receives a distressed call from Emma that she is in trouble and he must help. She says it's someone he knows but she cannot manage to name him because suddenly it hangs up.

Later, Sam has Erik and Leanna outside, Leanna is annoyed because he interrupted her social time. Erik is concerned. Sam tells them that Emma is in trouble. Leanna takes his phone because she knows Emma's number. She dials it and a male voice says that she is not available right now, try again later and thanks for calling and hangs up. Leanna tells Sam about it and he has a try. He tries to protest but he gets cut off. Leanna suggests that it might be something to do with the blood transfusion and persuades Sam to speak to Mark.

Emma is in the courtyard sitting on the ground, tied to a stump. The kidnapper circles her silently and drops her wallet. She struggles to get it and he brushes it with his feet. He circles her some more and she asks him what is happening. The kidnapper tells her they are waiting for a good old friend. She makes to ask another question but he silences her. She whines her for a drink of water, he goes to get one from the drinking fountain. She struggles but soon he returns.  She asks who he is but a van reverses in and the kidnapper goes to it.

Sam is in jail, trying to get some sense out of Mark, and is being patient. Mark adds that only one person has escaped from jail, and that was last summer. He refuses to speak, and when Sam challenges him with the news of the kidnap of Emma and Mark struggles to find words. The prison officers take them out and they begin to talk excitedly about it.  Sam recalls that she lost her wallet. Erik tells him that it had her identity cards in and Sam realises that whoever did this, he got the wrong woman. Sam suddenly gets a call from Sophie who somehow knows.

At Sophie's apartment, she shows them the recorded phone message that she got from the man who she recognised. Sam reckons that he might be the person that kidnapped Emma, so he compares it from the emergency call from her. On Sophie's message, there is a meeting place, Smoke in the bushes and a time. Sam reckons that it would be dangerous to meet him and suggests that they should get some background information on the man first. Sophie reminds of the place where Emma loves to hang out and suggests Sam looks there. Erik goes with him.

At the courtyard, Sam discovers footprints and they lead to a drinking fountain. Erik offers to do a DNA check on the water that made the footprints because he thinks that it might be connected to the virus he found that reacted with water. They realise that the footprints lead somewhere and there are tracks in the ground.

Emma is in the back of a van, and two kidnappers are in the front. She asks the kidnapper that was with her before if he could take away the light because it is shining right in her eyes. The other kidnapper is not masked. When the light is taken away, she breaks free and slides to the other side of the van. There are tanks with LV and a number written on them. Then one of the kidnappers sees her, and stops the van to tighten her ropes.

Leanna in the hospital realises that there is no match between the two voice patterns but she can identify one of them. It turns out that this man went under the alias of Newton Syrah. She goes into the hospital files and finds out that he had been at the hospital before for a checkup due to blackouts from alcohol abuse.

Sam and Erik are about to leave when Sam gets a call from Leanna, telling him something about Smoke In the Bushes and whereabouts it can be found. Erik notes his shocked expression, and suggests that Sam drives. There is a flash of Emma getting dragged out of the van and a voice saying, 'I'll hand her over to you.' Emma gets a cigar from one of the kidnappers.

Sam and Erik pick up Leanna and Sophie and they drive to a layby. Leanna is getting worried and asks 'What happens now?' Sam reckons that it might be something to do with Emma's smoking habit and leads them straight into woods.
They start running. Sam and Erik take the lead, even Leanna runs. They hear a scream and Sam tells Leanna that they found Emma's discarded wallet in the courtyard. Sophie is lagging behind because she doesn't want to get dirty and Sam tells her to get a move on. They run into clearing and find Matias. Leanna says, 'oh my god, It's you.'

Sam comes up to Matias and demands to know what he is doing with Emma. Matias silences and shows him a knife. Sam is losing control and punches Matias in the face, and Leanna screams at him to stop. Matias says that he has done nothing wrong and he is only doing a favour. Sam is seen to think and accuses Matias of the blood transfusion incident.  Matias admits he kidnapped Emma but denies killing the boy. A man gets out of the van, and Erik sneaks off to call the police. Sophie gasps and stutters, 'Ryan?'

Ryan Hewston is telling them all about the time he came in under the alias of Newton Syrah due to alcohol blackouts, and the fact that Sophie used to love him. He was the one who intruded the hospital to mix the blood in the blood transfusion. He walks up to Sophie and caresses her but she forces him off. Sam lunges at Ryan but, Matias scars Sam with his knife. Ryan then explains that he swapped the blood transfusion because he had a disease which he needed to eliminate and he needed fresh blood. He explains that Sophie is his destiny and he is doing all that he can to get her out of Sisorca where she is settling in, to get back with him. He tells them that Matias is working with him, and they are getting her even if it means death. Matias starts. Ryan says that Sam is all his now. Matias gives him two choices, to break free and have the girl killed as well or to go with him and spare the girl. While he holds the knife to Sam's neck there is a tense silence and he tries to hurry the decision. Distant sirens tell us that police are coming and they run up to him. Matias drops his knife and gets taken away. Sam follows and Matias says 'This isn't over.' Sophie watches Ryan being taken away and turns to Sam. Sam leaves the scene with his arm around Emma and glares at Sophie.

Sam asks Emma (who has a blanket around her) what happened. He encourages Emma to tell him what is going on.

Emma finally says, 'the attack has begun.' We see a shot of a fan turning on, and water beginning to spray out of it.

We see a receding view of Sam saying 'The nightmare is over,' with his arm around Emma watching the police leaving.

Episode 06: Ghosts of The Past

Emma is treating a male patient and feels very uncomfortable around him because of what happened. She is bending down, only to examine his nail when he suddenly grabs her wrist and leans in closely to her face. Emma is shaking and paralyzed with fear, but then he asks her for the bath room. She laughs weakly, and points him in the right direction. As he goes she holds her head in her hands and watches him fearfully.

Erik and Sam walk through the ground floor and Erik asks Sam what is going to happen from now onward. Sam says that they each have something to think about, and they will need to be prepared for what comes.

Erik asks whether he has spoken to Sophie, and Sam says that he has not really got the time to talk to her. Erik helps Sam come to terms with the fact that he cannot face her, and they agree she is not to be trusted.

Emma is walking through the corridor carrying a stack of files and unaware of who is coming up behind her. Suddenly Sam taps her on the shoulder and she screams dropping all her files to the floor alerting people's attention. She looks around and breaks down in tears. Angry she starts hitting Sam crying and telling him never to do that again. Sam realises that she is drawing a lot of attention to herself and starts patting her on the back, and putting his arms around her to calm her. He looks concerned. Sophie watches out the door.

Emma is in bed, and Sam is working in his office. Emma can't sleep, because she keeps having nightmares. She walks into the office, and asks Sam to come to bed. Sam looks awkward, and asks what he wants with him but he stops and understands. We see Sam curled asleep at the bottom of Emma's bed and her asleep.

Erik and a couple of other people, are trying to get the patient to speak, but he does not say a word to them. They are asking him questions for his name, age or who his family are but he does not answer any of them.

Erik then suggests that they should refer him to a doctor who can give a background check on his condition.

Erik is at the East Meadow Youth Institution. He asks to see Eva, and when asked his name, he tells them that it is an old friend called Erik. He is lead into a living room by the nurse and is seen to be greeting Eva.

The patient is walking around the hospital ward, but no nurse is present, to tell him to get back into a bed. He is looking in the cabinet to check the name of a person. But when he picks up the form and sees his own signature under the person's name, he becomes breathless, and collapses. Sam is walking in and sees him on the floor and calls for urgent backup. He is helped into the bed, pretending to be unconscious and smiles as he has the photo of the person on the form clenched in his hands. None of the people notice this however.

Sam does a checkup on the person's medical history. Maisy, the ward sister is chattering on about what he is doing out of bed and that he could have died. Sam shuts her up, and says that he will deal with the man. Sam cannot get the man to talk while he is examining the blood samples, but while he is giving him a 'jab,' the man grabs his wrist, to tell him that he wants to see Emma. Sam says 'now you're talking!!'

In the bedroom, Sam is persuading Emma to come out and talk to this patient. Emma is reluctant and she tries to tell him how she feels these days. Sam brushes this off and tells her that he requested her.

Sam walks towards the elevator but finds Sophie standing in it. He turns around and tries to avoid her, so she follows him, saying that they need to talk. Sam is reluctant to talk to Sophie, but she pleads with him. In the office, Sam is accusing Sophie of what happened to Emma. Sophie says that she could not help what happened. Sam asks her why she has been acting suspiciously, and she accuses him of living on suspicions.

This builds up to a row and Sophie eventually breaks down in tears and tells him she loves him.

Emma talks to the patient, and reveals that he came to donate a kidney ten years ago. He agrees and tells her, that he came here, after a heart attack. Emma asks him his age, and he tells her that he is thirty-five. Emma is surprised and finds out that he has a disease which makes him look old. He asks her about it.

Leanna is sitting in the prison talking to Matias. She feels uneasy, and not sure how to react towards him. Matias explains that ever since he was jailed, he had been waiting for her and dreaming of her every night. She is looking around at all the paintings in his cell. They are all paintings of her. She says he is obsessed with her and that he only did this because he wanted to see her. Matias pleads with her that he never ever meant to do wrong, he just hated Sam, for being responsible for their breakup. He admits that cannot live without her and she doesn't know what to say to him. She then leaves without a word looking sad.

Leanna is sitting on the bus trying not to cry. Then Erik gets on the bus and sees her so he sits across from her and begins to talk to her to cheer her up. Flashes of them in the ice cream parlour and Erik joking with her and she is smiling a bit but laughs when he drops ice cream over himself, walking along the road while making her laugh and sitting on the bench in the park with her telling jokes about all the stars in the sky. Then their eyes meet and Erik takes her hand and kisses her. He looks relieved that they are together.

Later, Sam tells Erik that the man had something more to do at the hospital. Erik agrees to this and then he explains that Eva doesn't remember him. Sam feels sorry for Erik and agrees to talk to Sophie.

Sam goes to Sophie's house, and she is slightly reluctant to see him, but he insists that he should come in. Then he tells Sophie that he is willing to go through with the baby with her. They embrace each other.

The Role and Meaning of the Characters in Hospital

22/11/2002

Sam

The central character who the story revolves around, and in return he provides the link who holds everyone together. All episodes are often based around his perspective of the unravelling events. Sam is a normal human being, not perfect by any means but he is generally a well meaning person. He takes his job very seriously and often works overtime, or puts off other things because of his work but sometimes he mixes up personal affairs into his career.

Sow fee

Sow fee in one of the later episodes of Season 1, seemed to be the woman that Sam had always dreamed about. However, she incites mystery and darker challenge near the start of Season 2 having seduced Sam into a conspiracy linking to her former lover. Sam is smitten with her, and falls under her powers. However, this leads to her former lover picking up his search for her to eventually be a new conflict to the hospital which results in bloody death involving many people. Sow fee feels estranged as a newcomer and does not worry about anyone else but Sam, but this doesn't matter to her because her mission is to put the past behind her. This doesn't quite fit.

Leanna

She goes through changes during her career in Hospital. She tends not to let her feelings emerge too much because of her social status and has everything in life but she has very little ambitions other than to get married and have children. The changes occur when Erik comes into her life. At first she treats him normally but events lead on to her choosing him over her reputation, when it is clear that Matias is no longer an influence over her. Later that year, however she is conscious that she is losing her greatness and treats Erik with disregard, finally driving him away from her.

However, if she feels that she is ready to move on, she must swallow dignity and re-convince him

Emma

The main source of comic relief in the series, Emma tries to be independent and strong, but she is really a bubbly, spirited woman who loves to have fun. She goes through a gradual development from being misunderstood, dependant on love and friendship to being the one that supports the group through hard times. Her meaning in Hospital is a friend to everyone, but also unfortunately the one who stumbles across danger. Emma doesn't like being hurt, and can react just as nasty.

Erik

There is no data about Erik.

Fashion Critique

3/9/2002

Erik began the season as a shy hardworking guy who did not as much mix with the people of his own age during leisure from work. This is reflected in his image, because the season begins him with a simple mop, only cut to about longest length but it suits the colour. During the first few months of Hospital, he has let his hair grow until he sported a razored bob which went just down below the ears. But as the season took on a new direction, he traded this rough look for a neater, shorter cut, taking his fair hair back to number 3.

Leanna has always coloured her hair, at the start of the season she went for a dark mahogany tone with her length sophisticatedly medium, going to about half-way down the neck. As the season progressed, she has let her hair grown longer for a more ladylike look. However, since the spring, she has used a lot of rose highlight, and put moose in her hair to get an elegant, wavy texture with more volume. She keeps that for the remaining time.

Sam livened up his style at the start of the season, by adding a natural bleach to the fringe, and using a touch of gel to spike it up. Behind, it is just left at his normal light brown colour but it slicks forward to compliment the spiky ski-lift at the front of his hair. Sam is also very fond of his sideburns, and goes for the style of letting them grow and cutting them very low to make a feature. Since he came back from Spain, Sam has used more bleach on his hair, and in doing so, increased the spikes to all over the scalp.

Emma’s hairstyle has changed the least. At the start of season 1 she let her hair fall naturally in curls, in her natural darker brown. She has kept this style, often pinning it behind at the back in a clip. Towards the summer however, she has let it grow longer & wilder, and in washing it less there is more up-front graduation in her look. This, together with the use of sea salt hair products and the light of the sun has graced her strands to a sun-kissed summer look, giving her matted curls more definition in swing and texture.

Kate quits Seveness (LPN)

30/7/2002

It was announced yesterday that Kate Sandersson from local band Seveness, has unexpectedly quit the group. She signed the papers in secret on the 27th but the other girls weren’t told until on Thursday. This came as a shock.

‘Kate had left the house, and the next evening, we were all called to a group meeting’ recalls Sandra, the outgoing one in the band, ‘our assistant told us that Kate had probably quit the band.’ ‘It wasn’t actually confirmed until a few days later, Thursday to be exact.’

‘When we were told, Nicola cried, Sandra screamed, Sara fainted, Elle ran out the room, Kat swore and I just sat’ said Claire who later said that she blinked.

The band were in danger of splitting up all together when Nicola thought of quitting herself but she said, ‘the girls helped me get over it.’

Kate had been married to her husband Garth a year before Seveness started and their relationship was only given a kick forward when Kate confirmed she was pregnant. Since, she emerged as being probably the strongest member in the band, having started bad when the press complained she was fat.

Kate was the member that always took no bull and stood up for herself. When the girls went on their millennium tour in west Europe, Kate got in shape and since then has had no problems.

‘When I was a girl at school, I used to be bullied because they thought I was fat,’ she once said. ‘I never let it worry me because all I wanted was fame.’

Kate had never had the courage to go to dance school, but has had singing training before she joined the band.
Picture
Kate always had a good relationship with her mother, which is what gave her the confidence in her feminine power and ultimately led her on to auditioning for Seveness. Since the millennium tour, she has begun to have a greater role in the band and has appeared as a beauty.

However, the main thing that lead her to leaving the band can be seen in this clue, ‘I never get time for my family because of my career,’ which is true in that she is due to have a baby daughter in December.

We reckon that when she has had a break, she should do a comeback. ‘What a brilliant idea, she could be a working mother!’ said a fan.

Going solo would also give her a lot more control because she would be making more decisions about what she wants to do not also the others. Seveness was just a practice for her so now let us see the real Kate.

The Seveness Book

14/4/2001

Hi Guys. welcome to our Official Book. Thanks you lot for buying this. And to show you that it is worth the money, we have saved the best as usual for our fans. In this book is the biz straight from all seven of us - that’s a promise. Since 1998 our lives have changed. This book includes all our experiences right from day one. Read on, and remember you see it all here first. Enjoy it!

In the beginning

In a world of so much competition, no one could ever imagine a band like Seveness. No one would ever predict the success of this band. They weren’t any ordinary girl band, picked off the streets and slapped together. They live with each other and have emotions and dreams of fame and fortune. The story starts in London Park, a small neighbourhood on the outskirts of London. The Rovie Mall was like the town hall of this neighbourhood and needed a project to work on. Little did they know that this would be more than a project. This was big. The auditions went for two weeks and started on the first day of December 1998. Seven girls were chosen because of their amazing singing voices, good looks and great personalities and the eldest girl, Kate arranged for them to move into her four bedroom house at London Park Road. They each had a personality and fitted together well. They were right for the band. Kate was the big sister of them all, Kathleen and Claire were the modern, stylish ones, Helen, Sara and Sandra were the most outgoing of the seven and Nicky was the one who sat back and let it all chill. They all got on really well together. They started writing their own songs around the piano in the living room and recorded their songs at the Rovie Mall. In January next year, they were shown to the public and released their first single We Are which got to number one.

The Rovie Show

This is our entertainment show, presented by us. It is broadcast live on London Digital from the Rovie Mall on Saturday nights from nine until half past ten. We have had so much fun on this show and every episode has been a memorable night with live performances, interviews with celebrities, quizzes, fun competitions and news on everything about Seveness. You can join in the fun too if you contact the Rovie Mall (see back of book) and you can also buy tickets to see many shows and maybe get to meet us all
