The Story of Hayda Loral

Once upon a time there lived a king and queen who had many daughters. They all lived in the Chateau de Loral near to the Loire river. They were very happy there. Out of the seven daughters, the king loved the youngest daughter, Hayda Loral of the River and Sea. This is what she looked like.

She had blue eyes and a short black crop of hair. She had a small nose, beautifully pointed. Her clothes were a black top joined onto black, tight trousers. She had a long black skirt leading down to her feet where she wore high-heeled black shoes.

The king gave her many presents: an expensive Parker pen, 9 boxes of lipsticks (red), 9 boxes of make-up, a piece of real silver and a diary.

One day, the king decided to have a heart-to-heart with Hayda.

“Hayda, dear,” he said. “What do you think about joining the army to fight in the Third World War??”
“Well, I am…”
“Of course you’re the only girl! You could save our country. Now don’t be such a wimp, you’re going this Friday.”

So, Hayda, on the day of her departure, stood at the port of Roscoff. The king gave her a silver necklace with an Amarendine in the middle.

“Good luck, Hayda,” said the king.
Hayda stepped aboard Brittany Ferries and sailed off to England. But on the ferry, several English men bullied her.
“Doesn’t deserve anything at all except hair, lipstick and a candle!|” one said.
“I bet her bag’s filled with lipstick!” another said.
Hayda decided she had had enough. A small boat was sailing very near the ferry. She jumped down into it. But the bullies had caught her long black skirt.
With a rip, she fell down into the boat. Her skirt was torn.
The sailor of the boat looked surprised.
“Who are you?” he asked.
“I am Hayda Loral, Princess of the River and Sea.”
They talked for some time. The sun was hot. Hayda decided that she was a bit too hot. So she took off her top and the sailor looked after it. She didn’t feel very happy. She missed her family badly. She had also lost her skirt and she only had her trousers. She threw her necklace into the sea.

She began to cry.
“What’s wrong, Hayda?” asked the sailor.
"I miss my family back in France!" sobbed Hayda.
They sailed on towards England. The sun was warm on her bare back.
In the evening, Hayda picked up her top and suitcase, as they landed on the shores of England.
“Thank you so much for the lift,” said Hayda.
She walked past some men.
“Look! She has no top!”
They all cheered. Hayda turned red. She quickly put her top on again.
She ran to a deserted church. She was tired. The church was dark. There were loads of candles and a bed. She took off her shoes and climbed into the bed. She fell asleep. She stayed there sleeping for the rest of the war until her boss found her there. He decided to take her home. He phoned the queen and told her that she would be coming home. The king and queen were delighted!
So, the next day, the princess Hayda came home on the ferry. Back to the Loire river, the sisters of Hayda spotted the ferry. The sisters were called:
  1. Séraphine
  2. Georgine
  3. Celine
  4. Marine
  5. Marie
  6. Claire
When she arrived, the family all hugged her. That night, as the other princesses were sleeping, the king gave Hayda her own necklace.
“A fisherman found it,” he said.
